چکیده

Precipitates of the ordered L12 ’ phase (dispersed in the face-centered cubic or FCC  matrix) were imaged in Rene 88 DT, a commercial multicomponent Ni-based superalloy, using energy filtered transmission electron microscopy (EFTEM). Imaging was performed using the Cr, Co, Ni, Ti and Al elemental L-edges in the energy loss spectrum. Manual and automated segmentation procedures were utilized for identification of precipitate boundaries, measurement of precipitate sizes and overall area fractions. The automated region growing technique for precipitate identification in images was determined to accurately measure precipitate diameters. In addition, the region growing technique provided a repeatable method for optimizing segmentation techniques for varying EFTEM conditions.

Multi-wall carbon nanotube (MWCNT)-reinforced nickel composites have been manufactured in a bulk form by using a laser deposition technique, commercially known as the laser engineered net shaping (LENSTM) process. These nanocomposites have been characterized in detail by using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and high-resolution TEM study has also b...

Transmission Electron Microscopy Sample Preparation of INCONEL 738 Nickel-Base Superalloy

Size, shape, volume fraction and distribution of embedded g/ phase in g phase has direct effect on strength of INCONEL alloy. Microstructure parameters of INCONEL phases are quantified from microstructure images using transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Different TEM sample preparation techniques were used to study INCONEL 738 alloy microstructure for transmission electron micros...

Determination of solution temperature in an ex-service Ni-based turbine blade

It is well-known that the harsh operational conditions of turbine blades lead to a gradual change in the microstructure of underlying Ni-based superalloy of blades. According to this, a rejuvenation process should be conducted on turbine blades superalloys to recover their microstructures. The first and main step of rejuvenation process is the determination of appropriate solution condition in ...

Phase transformation strengthening of high-temperature superalloys

Decades of research has been focused on improving the high-temperature properties of nickel-based superalloys, an essential class of materials used in the hot section of jet turbine engines, allowing increased engine efficiency and reduced CO2 emissions. Here we introduce a new 'phase-transformation strengthening' mechanism that resists high-temperature creep deformation in nickel-based superal...
